Mise-en-scene blog task

Mise en scene CLAMPS
Costume - All characters seem to be wearing very old and dirty costumes. This might suggest that they don't have proper clean clothes to change into.
Lighting - By looking at their faces, the light seems to be coming from the top right behind the camera. It looks like the natural sunlight facing towards them creating a more realistic feeling to the scene.
Actors - All characters have a very serious and concerned look on their face, some even with a little bit of shock. The character in the middle is point towards the camera probably indicating that something is going on in front of them.
Make up/ hair - Hair length varies through the crowd but none look very freshly cut which may mean that they're not in a very advanced area. They don't look like they have much make up on which shows again that the area isn't exactly very advanced.
Props - No props are used within this scene
Setting - In the background, we can see alot of green trees. These trees look like they're in the distance which may show that the characters are in a vast field in the middle of a forest.

Paul (sci fi)

Black panther (action)

The Nun (horror)

Costume - As you can see, the costumes between the three types of genres are clearly different. In 'Paul' the characters are dressed up in normal clothes, as in your day to day jeans and t shirts (apart form the alien). This is different compared to the action and the horror film. 'Black Panther' shoes a very warrior style by having them not wear shorts and fight barefoot with no armour. In 'The nun' there's the use of black clothes sort of haunting the woman wearing white. the white represents innocence whereas the black represents death and bad luck.
Lighting - In 'Paul' the lighting seems realistic as the light sines face on towards the characters yet the roof of the car blocks the light from the top meaning it looks natural. In 'Black Panther', this particular scene makes it look realistic also. The light is shone over a wide range from above. This lights the the entire set and causes a realistic view of it. In 'The Nun', the lighting used is very dim and it creates an eerie feeling towards the scene which is exactly the feeling you want to create in a horror movie.
Actors -  In 'Paul' the characters seem very relaxed towards the fact that an alien in driving a van in front of them. In normal circumstances, the people would be very scared of shocked but in this scene, they seem very calm and do not see the alien any different. In 'Black Panther' both main characters who are having a fight look very serious and they're placed on each side of the screen to show a division between the two. This creates more of an impact on the fight as it seems more intense. In 'The Nun' The character it the back wearing black is stood a bit further back than the woman who is wearing white. This may show that the darkness and death like character is slowly coming towards the innocent woman creating that sense of horror and mystery.
Make up/ hair - In 'Paul' the human characters have normal hairstyles and normal make up showing them as normal humans. The alien was either done by alot of cosmetics and plastic masks or CGI. In 'Black Panther' the characters face isn't really shown as the main focus of this scene is the fight and not them. The hair is also just more human hairstyles, nothing special about it. In' the nun', their hair is covered and the face of the scary nun is hidden. The other nun seems unaware at this point of the person behind her and looks like a normal nun.
Props - In 'Paul' the car may be counted as a prop or part of the set. But apart form that, no other props are used. In' Black Panther' the shield, the sword and the spears in the back are all props used by the characters. This makes the fight seem more interesting as using weapons means more damage can be inflicted. In 'the nun' the lamp is used to lighten the around around he nun. Because the light is so dim, it emphasises the dim and mysterious surroundings.
Setting - 'Paul' is set within a car for that scene. It looks like a caravan with an alien sitting at the wheel. 'Black Panther' is set on some sort of waterfall on a mountain somewhere because of all the water around the arena. 'The nun' is set in some dark area. So dark that you can not make out the surroundings which makes the feeling of mystery even bigger than it already is.
